Ellensburg WA • 2003
I approached Celeste Kline, the Director of Ellensburg’s
Library, in the summer of 2000 with the idea that Kittitas County
should do an art piece to celebrate the Millennium. We put together
a committee of interested community members. As the lead artist,
I assisted the community in the creation and development of
the Millennium Labyrinth. The labyrinth is composed of four
sections, each highlighting a segment of the county’s
history. Beginning with the tile that shows the State of Washington,
created from five separate landmasses, 52 incised tiles convey
the story of our county. In the center of the labyrinth is a
granite circle with a bronze three-dimensional map of Kittitas
County. Below this stone is a vault containing a time capsule. |
