Both the snake and the butterfly are symbols of rebirth and renewal.
The painting speaks of the feeling I was experiencing during a transitional
time in my life. It was a feeling of stasis, poised between the past
and the unknown future.
I had agreed to teach some children to fly. I kind of wished that
I hadn’t gotten involved in this project. I decided that they
should send the boys off to do something else since I didn’t
think that they could suspend their grip on reality long enough to
learn to fly.
